EQS SUV 450:
The EQS SUV 450 now offers an even more dynamic and luxurious presence with the addition of the AMG Line. The G 450d is powered by all new six-cylinder inline diesel with a 48-volt on-board electrical system and an integrated starter generator (ISG), providing support at lower engine speeds with an additional 15 kW. The unit delivers 270 kW and torque of 750 Nm. From a standstill, the G 450d accelerates to 100 kmph in just 5.8 seconds, with a top speed of 210 kmph.

The G 450d features the classic G-Class silhouette, with a new radiator grille with four horizontal louvres instead of the previous three. In addition, there are redesigned front and rear bumpers with the front ones featuring a new refreshed look. Mercedes-Benz India achieves its highest ever monthly sales in its history in India; overwhelming customer response for GST 2.0 leads to the best-ever September (+36%), and record sales during the ongoing festive period

Pune: India’s most desirable luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz today, announced its best-ever September sales, growing by a robust 36% compared to September 2024. The record monthly sales is strongly driven by Government’s GST 2.0 reforms which buoyed customer interest and resulted in increased purchase, that has been on hold since middle of August. The GST 2.0 reforms is reflected in the Navratri Sales, which witnessed ~2500 units retailed in the nine days of the festival, making it the highest ever Navratri sales for Mercedes-Benz in India.

 

The highest ever September 2025 sales also drives Mercedes-Benz’s highest ever Q2 FY 25-26 sales performance with 5119 units retailed. The best-ever sales performance in Q2 FY 25-26 was buoyed by steady demand across ‘Core Luxury’ and ‘Top-End Luxury’ vehicles. The sales momentum in Q2 FY 25-26 was driven by growth in the top-end luxury BEV portfolio, which continued its penetration of 8% in the overall sales volume of Mercedes-Benz India.

 

Strong demand for the Top-End Luxury segment: Best-ever monthly sales for GLS, AMG G63 SUVs and the EQS SUV in September 2025
Demand for Mercedes-Benz ‘Top-End’ luxury segment continued for the Q2 FY 25-26 with 25% penetration and 12% y-o-y growth. Top-End Vehicles comprising GLS, S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach, AMG G 63 continued to command customer preference with growing trends of hyper-personalization and customization. Mercedes-Benz’s bespoke ‘manufaktur’ range, offering personalized selection of high-quality equipment, exclusive appointments and craftsmanship, comprises 75% of all top-end luxury vehicles sold in India. AMG G 63 also registered its highest ever monthly sales despite a waiting period of more than 6 months.

 

Steady demand driving the ‘Core’ segment: Best-ever monthly sales for LWB E-Class, GLC and GLE SUVs
Mercedes-Benz’s ‘Core’ segment registered a growth of 10% in Q2 FY 25-26 with best-ever monthly sales for LWB E-Class, GLC and GLE SUVs in September 2025. ‘Core Segment’ continued to play an important role with 60% penetration in Mercedes-Benz India’s overall sales in India. The success of the LWB E-Class remains unchallenged in India, making it the highest selling luxury car in India with a 47% y-o-y growth for the luxury sedan in the Q2 FY 25-26 period.

 

Entry Luxury Segment:
Mercedes-Benz ‘Entry Luxury’ portfolio comprising the A-Class sedan and the GLA SUV continue to offer high product substance in their respective segments, driving substantial value proposition for luxury customers. Mercedes-Benz Entry Luxury products are feature loaded underpinning a value- oriented sales approach that successfully caters to the growing aspirations of young customers. In Q2 FY 25-26, Mercedes-Benz ‘Entry Luxury Segment’ declined in a segment completely dominated by products available at a lower price point having market offers.

 

Top-End BEVs continue to drive Mercedes-Benz’s BEV growth:
Mercedes-Benz continued its BEV acceleration in India with a penetration of 8% to overall sales. The BEV portfolio grew by 10% with highest ever sales for the EQS SUV. The top-end G 580 Edition 1 with EQ Technology is already sold out for the year and bookings are now open for the next slot of deliveries.

The latest analysis of MBHX highlights the fundamental drivers behind India’s wealth creation. The chart shows that the index’s growth is anchored in two key macroeconomic trends: the expansion of the national economy (GDP) and the increasing number of ultra-high-net-worth individuals (Hurun India Rich List 2024 Billionaire Entrants).

 

The parallel upward trajectories of GDP and billionaire entrants demonstrate a strong positive correlation, confirming that as India’s economy grows, it consistently produces more billionaires.

 

The year 2021 provides a striking case study: the pandemic-induced economic shock triggered a synchronised dip across all three indicators—the GDP, the number of billionaire entrants, and MBHX. The subsequent sharp recovery from 2022 onwards, with all metrics resuming a robust upward climb, underscores that the health of India’s high-net-worth economy is closely intertwined with broader national prosperity and entrepreneurial success.

 

Together, these two measures tell a compelling story: India’s wealth ecosystem is resilient and responsive. While long-term fundamentals continue to strengthen, the ecosystem also adapts quickly to challenges, underscoring the maturity and dynamism of India’s growth trajectory.

MBHX Confirms India’s Wealth Creation Is Real

The Nominal and Real MBHX move almost parallel, showing only a small gap between them. This tells us that inflation in India over this period was moderate and well-managed, averaging around 4–6% annually. Unlike high-inflation economies, where nominal measures are heavily distorted, most observed wealth creation in India came from genuine economic expansion, stock market growth, and new billionaire wealth, not simply rising prices.

 

In other words, the MBHX confirms that India’s wealth creation story since 2017 has been real, sustainable, and largely inflation-resilient.

A new analysis of India’s millionaire households highlights the distribution of wealth across varying net-worth tiers, underscoring the growing concentration of assets at the top. The data present a clear wealth pyramid, where households rise sharply as the wealth brackets decline.

 

At the very apex stand 360 billionaire households, each with a net worth exceeding INR8,500Cr (US$1 Bn), collectively commanding an extraordinary INR 185 lakh crore. Below them, the affluent base expands significantly: 66,800 households hold wealth above INR100Cr, while the count of millionaire households (net worth above INR8.5Cr / US$1Mn) reaches 8,71,700.

 

India’s Millionaire Surge Reshapes the Wealth Pyramid, but the Climb to Billionaire Status Remains Elusive

 

India adds millions of new millionaires and crorepatis between 2017 and 2025, yet only a fraction ascends into the ultra-rich and billionaire tiers, highlighting broad-based affluence and steep selectivity at the top.

 

The Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Wealth Report 2025 reveals a transformative decade in India’s wealth landscape, characterised by extraordinary upward mobility at the pyramid's base and a sharp narrowing of fortunes at the apex.

 

Between 2017 and 2025, the number of Indians surpassing the symbolic US$1Mn mark (INR8.5Cr) grew by 445%, while those exceeding INR10Cr (US$1.17Mn) rose by over 200%. This surge reflects India’s rapidly expanding affluent base, driven by strong equity markets, entrepreneurship, and urban economic growth.

 

At the same time, upward mobility into the ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) brackets was more selective. Roughly 5% of 2017 millionaires crossed into the INR100Cr (US$12Mn) bracket, while only 1.3% reached INR200Cr (US$24Mn). Beyond this point, the pyramid narrows dramatically: just 0.07% of millionaires progressed to INR1,000Cr (US$120Mn) and a mere 0.01% became billionaires (US$1Bn+).

 

These findings underline a dual narrative: India produces millions of new millionaires, yet billionaire status remains extraordinarily rare, achievable only by a select few through global-scale enterprises, IPOs, or multi-generational wealth consolidation.

 

Consistency with Income-tax Data:

 

The report’s findings are reinforced by official Income-tax return (ITR) statistics, which show that the number of taxpayers with annual income above INR1Cr nearly tripled between AY 2017–18 and AY 2023–24, rising from ~81,000 to ~2.27 lakh. Like the wealth pyramid, the taxpayer pyramid thins out quickly in higher slabs (INR5Cr+, INR10Cr+), validating the report’s conclusion that wealth mobility is potent at the base but sharply selective at the top. The Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Wealth Report 2025 positions India as one of the world’s most dynamic wealth-creation economies:

Pune/Gurugram: India's most desirable luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz today launched the spectacular Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé, further strengthening its top-end luxury performance portfolio in India. The sporty, elegant two-door model combines the best of both worlds - the agility and sportiness of the C-Class with the space, elegance and status of the E-Class; delivering an unparalleled driving experience with a stunning road presence for performance enthusiasts.

 

Inline six-cylinder with integrated starter generator and electric additional compressor

 

The new CLE 53 4MATIC+ uses a comprehensively upgraded version of the 3.0-litre M 256M inline six-cylinder turbo engine. The facelift generation of the high-performance engine, now known as the M 256M, impresses above all with optimized combustion chambers with redesigned inlet and outlet channels, new piston rings, optimized injection and a new exhaust gas turbocharger. In conjunction with the new electric additional compressor, this offers an increase in boost pressure by 0.4 bar to 1.5 bar and thus a higher torque of 560 Nm in continuous operation and 600 Nm in overboost for up to 12 seconds.


However, what is more important than the absolute torque is the availability of it and the overall response of the engine. The improved electric additional compressor is responsible for this. It can now be operated almost continuously over a longer period of time. Drivers feel this especially in medium speed ranges. For this, the exhaust gas turbocharger was made larger for higher peak performance.


The new, second-generation integrated starter generator (ISG) is now integrated into the gearbox bell housing. As a central component of the 48-volt electrical system, it not only functions as an electrical generator, but also takes on hybrid functions. These include short-term boosting with 17 kW (23 hp) of power and 205 Nm of torque, recuperation, load point shifting, sailing and the almost imperceptible restart of the engine during the start-stop function.

 

Adapted switching times, high efficiency: AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission

The 3.0-litre in-line engine is coupled with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission, which impresses with adapted shift times, quick reactions, the double-declutching function and multiple downshifts. An upshift or downshift is implemented immediately. The transmission acts very spontaneously, especially in the "Sport+" driving programme and in manual mode. Dynamic acceleration manoeuvres and the adjusted shifting times are available, as is a fuel-saving driving style, depending on the driving programme selected.

 

Characteristics at your fingertips: AMG DYNAMIC SELECT

With the five AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving programmes "Slippery", "Comfort", "Sport", "Sport+" and "Individual" the characteristics of the CLE 53 can be influenced at the touch of a finger. The differentiation ranges from efficient and comfortable to very sporty. Important parameters such as the response behaviour of the engine, transmission, chassis and steering are modified. Regardless of the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving programmes, the driver can switch directly to manual mode using the "M" button, to shift gears exclusively using the steering wheel shift paddles.

 

Fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive as standard

The fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive combines optimal traction for dynamic driving pleasure with a high level of driving safety under all conditions: on dry roads as well as on wet or slippery surfaces. The transition from rear to all-wheel drive and vice versa occurs continuously because the intelligent control is integrated into the entire vehicle system architecture. 

 

When driving moderately and in situations where all-wheel drive is not required, the front axle is completely decoupled. This increases efficiency. From the ESP Sport setting onwards, the driving behaviour is more rear-focused.

 

Independent AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension and three-stage steering

The AMG RIDE CONTROL chassis developed in Affalterbach is used for more agility, more neutral cornering behaviour and higher traction. The steel suspension with a particularly sporty spring-damper set-up and adaptive adjustable damping combines excellent driving dynamics with a high level of ride comfort. The damping on each wheel adapts to the current driving situation and road conditions quickly and precisely via separate valves for the tension and compression directions in the dampers. The damper characteristic curve can be preselected in three levels: "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport+".

 

The standard rear axle steering operates with a maximum steering angle of 2.5 degrees. Up to this degree, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels at speeds of up to 100 km/h, leading to a virtual shortening of the wheelbase and resulting in significantly more agile turning, less steering work, and increased maneuverability. At speeds of more than 100 km/h, the rear wheels turn parallel to the front wheels - up to a maximum of 0.7 degrees for enhanced driving stability.

 

Interior with independent equipment and specific displays

The interior welcomes passengers with unique equipment, exclusive materials and the latest generation MBUX infotainment system. The eye-catchers are the free-standing 12.3-inch fully digital driver display, the 11.9-inch driver-oriented central display in a user-friendly portrait format and the dynamic ambient lighting with 64 colours.

 

With the driver display, customers can switch between the display styles "Classic", "Sport" and AMG exclusive "Supersport". The "Supersport" mode is particularly striking with a central round tachometer, designed horizontal displays that are located to the left and right of the tachometer and create a spatial impression of depth. Pune: India’s most desirable luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz today announced its highest ever sales in its 30 years operations in India. Mercedes-Benz reported its best-ever January-December 2024 sales retaining the Three-Pointed Star’s strong differentiation as the ‘most desirable’ luxury car brand in the Indian market. The company achieved a record sale of 19,565 new cars sold in January-December 2024, underlining a strong 12.4% growth, despite facing challenging market headwinds.

 

The best-ever yearly sales of Mercedes-Benz in India is a result of the company’s achieving its ‘best-ever quarter’, for all the four consecutive quarters in 2024. While the YTD Q4 2024 growth was at 12%, the H2 sales growth was at a higher 16% YoY, underlining Mercedes-Benz steady sales performance round the year, as it faced continued market challenges and macro-economic headwinds.

 

This outstanding sales result was driven by a combination of newly launched and existing vehicles and an enhanced retail customer experience. Demand persisted for Mercedes-Benz across its Entry, Core, and Top-End Vehicle (TEV) segments, with strong performance from new as well as existing products. In 2024, Mercedes-Benz launched 14 new products including 9 alluring Top-End Vehicles in the Indian market, exciting the customer sentiment and creating ‘desire’, which is synonymous with a Mercedes-Benz.

 

Robust BEV sales at 94%:

Mercedes-Benz’s BEV portfolio continued to gain strong customer preference, growing significantly by 94% year on year, with an enhanced penetration of more than 6% in YTD Jan-Dec 2024 sales. The introduction of 4 New BEVs in 2024 comprising the EQA 250+, 5-seater EQB SUV, ‘Made in India’ EQS SUV 580 and the ultra-luxurious Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, expanded the BEV portfolio and created a strong customer interest for Mercedes-Benz BEVs. Mercedes-Benz leads the luxury BEV segment selling its highest number of BEVs in a single year.

Mercedes-Benz’s current offering comprises a BEV suited to each customer’s preference and requirements. Mercedes-Benz’s ambitious roadmap for BEV was particularly underscored by a record growth of 110% in Q4 2024 alone.

Mercedes-Benz today introduces two new BEVs in the Indian market comprising the 5-Seater ‘Made in India’ EQS 450 SUV and the iconic G-Class in its BEV version, the G 580 with EQ Technology. Mercedes-Benz accomplishes milestone of selling 200,000 cars in India:

Of the 200,000 Mercedes-Benz sold since 1994; 100,000 cars were sold in the last 6 years alone (2019-2024). Though the first 50,000 cars took 20 years (1994-2013), the next 50,000 were sold in 5 years from 2014-2018. In the last decade (2014-2024), Mercedes-Benz sold an astounding 150,000 new Mercedes-Benz cars, underling the growing affluence and aspirations of successful Indian customers across markets.

Mercedes-Benz Financial Services achieves 50%+ penetration and remains the preferred choice as financers for Mercedes-Benz customers funding every second Mercedes-Benz retailed in India. The all-new electric G-Class uses torque vectoring to generate virtual differential locks. This technology makes it possible to precisely meter torque to each individual wheel. As torque builds exactly where needed within fractions of a second, the electric G-Class holds a clean, confident line even on the most challenging terrain. The virtual differential locks enable fully variable torque distribution among the individual wheels for traction with maximum flexibility without negatively impacting cornering.


Exclusive G-Class: G-TURN, G-STEERING and intelligent off-road crawl function:


With G-TURN, the electric G-Class can rotate on the spot. The vehicle performs up to two complete turns in the desired direction on unpaved or loose off-road surfaces. This not only looks spectacular but can also be helpful when driving off-road – for example, if an obstacle ahead makes it impossible to continue forward.


G-STEERING can significantly reduce the turning circle of the G 580 with EQ Technology when driving off-road. This is achieved through targeted control of the drive torque at each individual wheel, with the vehicle turning around the inside rear wheel. The function can thus eliminate the need for multi-point turns in certain situations – for example in sharp bends or other tight spaces.


The intelligent off-road crawl function provides drivers with additional support off-road. It ensures ideal propulsion even on loose surfaces, maintaining a pre-set speed – and thus functions in a manner similar to cruise control, but for off-road driving. The intelligent off-road crawl function is always active when the LOW RANGE off-road gear reduction is engaged.


G-ROAR: the sound of the all-new electric G-Class:


G-ROAR brings a unique sound experience to the Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology. Inspired by the G-Class model family's emotional combustion engine sounds, it provides an impressive acoustic accompaniment to the acceleration of the electric G-Class. G-ROAR also includes an "aura" sound and a variety of "event" sounds. The "aura" sound can already be heard around the vehicle when drivers approach the electric G-Class and unlock the doors.


New OFFROAD COCKPIT:


the new OFFROAD COCKPIT can be accessed directly via the off-road control center. An overview of the most relevant information for off-road driving as well as functions to support off-road driving are shown on the driver and multimedia displays.


"Transparent hood" function:


In conjunction with the 360-degree camera, the "transparent hood" function provides a virtual view of under the front of the vehicle to enable the driver to better recognize obstacles in the vehicle's path. The function also helps drivers to properly assess crests, embankments and hollows that may no longer be visible through the windshield, if the angle is too steep.


Battery & Charging:


At the heart of the all-new electric G-Class is the high-voltage battery with a 116-kWh usable capacity. The two-tiered lithium-ion battery with 216 cells is installed in twelve cell modules between three cooling levels. It is integrated into the steel ladder frame to ensure a low center of gravity and also makes the entire vehicle significantly more rigid. ECO Assistant and Navigation with Electric Intelligence support electric driving.
Both AC and DC charging are possible thanks to a 9.6-kW on-board AC charger and a DC fast charging system with a charging capacity of up to 200 kW. With DC fast charging, the high voltage battery is able to charge from 10 to 80 percent SoC (State of Charge) in approximately 32 minutes. The all-new electric G-Class includes three charging programs – "Standard," "Work" and "Home." Users can set parameters such as departure time, climate control and maximum charge level.


Multi-stage high-voltage safety concept:


Mercedes-Benz has developed a multi-stage high-voltage protection concept for its electric vehicles to prevent electric shocks and high-energy short circuits. It comprises eight essential elements for the safety of the battery and all components with a voltage level of more than 60 volts. This includes, for example, a self-monitoring high-voltage system that switches off automatically in the event of a serious collision.


Suspension and drivetrain:


The all-new electric G-Class brings the off-road capability of the G-Class into the era of electric mobility. In certain areas, the G 580 with EQ Technology even surpasses the AMG G 63 – in water-wading depth, for example. The ladder frame has been modified and reinforced for the electric model, retaining the combination of independent double wishbone front suspension and solid rear axle.

Network expansion: Mercedes-Benz has inaugurated 6 new touchpoints and revamped 11 outlets to the latest global luxury retailing format in the Jan-Sep 2024 period. Mercedes-Benz now has one or more revamped facilities in key markets like New Delhi, Gurgaon, Kochi, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chandigarh, etc. By end of 2024 nearly 40 outlets of Mercedes-Benz will be transformed into the latest ‘global luxury retailing format’ known as ‘MAR20X’ for an elevated customer experience. Mercedes-Benz India will also have presence in 4 new cities in Q4 2024 with an outlet each in Amritsar to start with, followed by locations like Kottayam, Agra and Kanpur. Pune: India’s most desirable luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz today accomplished the coveted ‘Guinness World Records’ title for covering the longest distance in a production BEV in a single charge, with its state-of-art, ‘Made in India’ EQS 580 4MATIC luxury BEV. The EQS 580 travelled a distance of 949.0 Kms from the southern city of Bengaluru to Navi Mumbai in the west, in one single charge. The record setting drive under an arduous and real-life driving conditions signify the efficiency, long range and practicality of the EQS 580 luxury sedan, which is also India’s first locally assembled luxury BEV. The Guinness World Records title was created by Autocar India magazine road test team, led by Autocar road-tester Rahul Kakkar.

The record drive included areas of built-up traffic in busy urban and sub-urban areas with road works, diversions and detours amidst the heavy monsoon rains. Data from the EQS 580 at the end of the journey showed the luxury sedan delivered an electrical power consumption of 11.36 kWh/100 km.

The EQS 580 maintained an average speed of 60kph on the highway, maximizing the range of the sedan. The three regen levels of the EQS 580 4MATIC were used, extracting every last kilometre from the EQS’ massive battery pack of 107.8 kWh, making this Guinness World Records title a reality.

The BEV that made the ‘Guinness World Record title’ 2024: EQS 580 4MATIC

The BEV is India’s longest-range BEV across segments, with an ARAI certified range of 857 Kms. With meticulous detailing on the basis of Purpose design, the Mercedes-Benz aerodynamic engineers in close cooperation with the designers, were able to achieve a new cd best value of 0.20 for the EQS sedan. This makes the EQS ‘the most aerodynamic production car in the world’. The operating range particularly benefitted from this inherent strengths of the EQS 580, leading to the World Record.

The record-setting mileage achieved was remarkably higher than the EQS’ certified claimed range, exceeding by over 10 percent. Furthermore, factors like the low-slung sedan form and the aerodynamically optimized wheels gives the Mercedes EQS a drag coefficient of 0.20, making it the world’s slipperiest car through the air, further helping maximize the range clocked during the drive.

An average speed of 50-60kph was maintained on the highway to maximize range. All three levels of regen were used on the car to extract every last kilometer from the sedan’s massive battery pack, making this Guinness World Records title possible.

Drive Route: Bengaluru to Navi Mumbai

The EQS 580 was driven from southern city of Bengaluru to the western city of Navi Mumbai covering a distance of 949.0 Kms. The route covered cities like Davangere, Hubli, Belgavi, Kolhapur, Satara and Pune before reaching Navi Mumbai.

Challenges faced:

The ‘Guinness World Records’ title was accomplished traversing across arduous driving conditions under real driving conditions, making the achievement highly significant. Undertaken during the thick of the Indian monsoon, the drive route from Bengaluru to Navi Mumbai witnessed the EQS 580 lashed with torrential rainfall on multiple stretches. This not only escalated the difficulties further, but also created treacherous driving conditions for this record setting drive, that already was under high time pressure.

The exceptionally heavy monsoon of 2024 has also resulted in intensive roadwork to be carried out at multiple spots along the route. This resulted in numerous diversions and detours, further upping the challenge for the driver to achieve the title.
