Highest ever monthly sales for the LWB E-Class sedan and GLC, GLE, GLS and AMG G63 range of SUVs

“Mercedes-Benz clocked its best-ever September sales owing to an overwhelming customer response following the GST 2.0 reforms, culminating the pent-up demand. Our attractive new portfolio combined with innovative financial programmes under the ‘Dream Days’ campaign, resulted in overwhelming demand for Mercedes-Benz cars in the luxury market. We expect this festive buying spirit to continue in October as well, with upcoming festivities including Dhanteras and Diwali, which traditionally witness spirited buying from customers. While there was strong demand across the portfolio, we recorded the highest ever monthly sales for key products like the Long Wheelbase E- Class, GLC, GLE, GLS and G63 AMG SUVs.”

“The reduction in the GST rates has certainly improved customer sentiment with its appropriate timing; as car prices are increasing owing to macro-economic challenges like adverse forex movement, rising operational cost etc. We hope this buoyant spirit sustains for the remaining festive season, as we continue to observe market trends closely, remaining cautiously optimistic.”

Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India

Best ever monthly sales

Pune: India’s most desirable luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz today, announced its best-ever September sales, growing by a robust 36% compared to September 2024. The record monthly sales is strongly driven by Government’s GST 2.0 reforms which buoyed customer interest and resulted in increased purchase, that has been on hold since middle of August. The GST 2.0 reforms is reflected in the Navratri Sales, which witnessed ~2500 units retailed in the nine days of the festival, making it the highest ever Navratri sales for Mercedes-Benz in India.

The highest ever September 2025 sales also drives Mercedes-Benz’s highest ever Q2 FY 25-26 sales performance with 5119 units retailed. The best-ever sales performance in Q2 FY 25-26 was buoyed by steady demand across ‘Core Luxury’ and ‘Top-End Luxury’ vehicles. Foreword

At Hurun India, our vision has always been to create a deeper understanding of how wealth is created, distributed, and consumed in the world’s fastest-growing economies. Today, India stands at the forefront of this story. In less than a decade, the country has emerged as one of the largest wealth-creating nations globally and as one of the most aspirational, where affluence is increasingly shaping lifestyles, consumption, and global influence.

It is in this context that we are proud to present the Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Index (MBHX) Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Wealth Report 2025 and the Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Luxury Consumer Survey 2025, in partnership with Mercedes-Benz India. Few brands have been as closely aligned with the journey of India’s wealth creators as Mercedes-Benz. For over three decades, the brand has been both a symbol of aspiration and a trusted partner in mobility for India’s affluent households. Hurun India, in turn, has sought to be the chronicler of this transformation through our rich list and wealth research. Together, we combine credibility, heritage, and insight to present a holistic picture of India’s wealth landscape.

This year also marks the introduction of the Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Index (MBHX), designed as a yardstick of wealth creation in India. The index uniquely blends indicators such as Mercedes-Benz car sales, the number of billionaires on the Hurun India Rich List 2024, stock market performance, and GDP growth to provide a composite measure of India’s wealth trajectory. It is our attempt to move beyond isolated statistics and create a more accurate barometer of India’s economic and social progress.

The Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Luxury Consumer Survey 2025 provides exclusive insights into the lifestyles, consumption habits, and brand choices of India’s millionaire population. Conducted among 150 Indian millionaires (net worth ≥ US$1Mn / INR8.5Cr), the study captures both quantitative data and qualitative perspectives, offering a nuanced picture of how India’s wealthy engage with luxury. The findings, based on data collected up to 1st January 2025, highlight emerging trends in brand preferences, investment attitudes, luxury consumption, and lifestyle aspirations. By mapping these behaviours, the survey underscores how India’s affluent households are shaping the future of the luxury market—both domestically and globally.

As India continues its rise as a global wealth hub, this report is both timely and necessary. It celebrates the success of India’s wealth creators, provides insights for businesses and policymakers, and underscores the role of aspiration in driving the next phase of growth. We believe the Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Wealth Report 2025, the Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Luxury Consumer Survey 2025, and the Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Index (MBHX)will serve as benchmarks for measuring and understanding the true scale of wealth creation in India.

Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Index (MBHX), Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Wealth Report 2025 And Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Luxury Consumer Survey 2025

Mumbai, India | 18 September 2025: For the first time, Mercedes-Benz and Hurun India have partnered to publish the Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Index (MBHX), Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Wealth Report 2025 alongside the Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Luxury Consumer Survey 2025, offering a comprehensive overview of the country’s economic rise, wealth landscape and the lifestyle preferences of its millionaire households.

The Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Wealth Report 2025 estimates that India is home to 8,71,700 dollar millionaire households (net worth ≥INR 8.5 Cr each), up from 4,58,000 in 2021 – a 90% increase in four years. These millionaire families represent about 0.31% of all households in India (up from 0.17% in 2021) and are projected to continue growing in number on the back of strong economic momentum. Meanwhile, the Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Luxury Consumer Survey 2025, based on responses from 150 Indian millionaires (Average age 32 years), sheds light on their brand preferences, investment attitudes, and lifestyle trends, ranging from digital payment adoption to favourite luxury brands.

Commenting on the launch, Santosh Iyer, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said, "India's growth story underscores the resilience and transformation of the economy, driven by a burgeoning domestic market and soaring aspiration of today’s young generation. Mercedes-Benz, with strong roots in India, remains a symbol of social prestige, financial affluence and unmatched desirability. The Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Index reflects the pulse of India's wealth creation and luxury consumption patterns, representing the sentiment of India's affluents. Mercedes-Benz remains optimistic about India's economic resilience and social progress, and our strategic patience defines our long-term positive market outlook and exuberance for India.", concluded Santosh Iyer.

Commenting on the launch, Anas Rahman Junaid, Founder & Chief Researcher, Hurun India, said, “I believe our inaugural Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Index (MBHX) truly captures the spirit of India’s economic rise. For the first time, we have an index that uniquely blends multiple indicators – from luxury car sales and billionaire growth to stock market performance and GDP – into a single yardstick of wealth creation. The index’s near-200% surge in recent years shows me that India’s wealth creation is real and resilient, rising in tandem with our broader economic progress. This index is more than a statistic; it’s a celebration of how far India has come and a benchmark for the journey ahead."

"I am struck by the extraordinary upward mobility we’re witnessing in India. In less than a decade, the number of Indian households worth over US$1Mn has skyrocketed by 445% – a surge that underlines how wealth creation is reaching a broader base of our society. This democratisation of prosperity speaks to the resilience of our economy, with opportunity spreading to millions of new wealth creators. Yet it’s also telling that only about 5% of 2017’s millionaires have become ultra-high-net-worth individuals and a mere 0.01% made it to billionaire status. It shows that while affluence is spreading, the climb to the very top remains steep. Overall, I see a nation where wealth aspirations are more attainable than ever, fueling a confident, upwardly mobile India."

"As of today, India counts roughly 8.7 lakh (871,700) millionaire households – still modest next to China’s ~51 lakh (5.1 million), and a far cry from the even larger base in the United States. I don’t view this gap as a disadvantage; I see it as our runway. It underscores the immense growth potential of India’s wealth story. In fact, with the economy set to double, we project India’s millionaires could double to around 1.7 to 2 million households in the next decade. Powered by our young demographic, technology and entrepreneurial spirit, India is poised to become the world’s fastest-growing wealth hub – gradually closing the gap with the leading economies. The best is yet to come."

"One of the most exciting aspects of India’s wealth boom is the rise of the luxury market. Our latest survey reveals that India’s millionaires are actively shaping the future of luxury consumption, influencing trends at home and abroad. We chose to shine a spotlight on the luxury segment because luxury in India today is far more than indulgence – it represents aspiration, innovation, and the confidence of a new India. As wealth grows, so does demand for premium experiences, and the next decade presents a meaningful opportunity for global luxury brands to deepen their presence in India. By honoring this segment, we acknowledge that the story of India’s wealth creators is also a story of evolving tastes and world-class aspirations."

"I would like to sincerely thank Mercedes-Benz for partnering with us on this report. This collaboration marries Mercedes-Benz’s legacy as a symbol of aspiration for India’s wealthy with Hurun’s expertise in chronicling wealth creation. Together, we have combined our credibility and insights to present a holistic picture of India’s wealth landscape. I believe this partnership sets a new benchmark – it’s a testament to our shared vision to celebrate India’s wealth creators and the luxury ecosystem that inspires them. We are proud of what we’ve achieved together, and I look forward to our continued journey in highlighting India’s success stories.", concluded Anas Rahman Junaid, Founder and Chief Researcher, Hurun India.

The latest analysis of MBHX highlights the fundamental drivers behind India’s wealth creation. The chart shows that the index’s growth is anchored in two key macroeconomic trends: the expansion of the national economy (GDP) and the increasing number of ultra-high-net-worth individuals (Hurun India Rich List 2024 Billionaire Entrants).

The parallel upward trajectories of GDP and billionaire entrants demonstrate a strong positive correlation, confirming that as India’s economy grows, it consistently produces more billionaires.

The year 2021 provides a striking case study: the pandemic-induced economic shock triggered a synchronised dip across all three indicators—the GDP, the number of billionaire entrants, and MBHX. The subsequent sharp recovery from 2022 onwards, with all metrics resuming a robust upward climb, underscores that the health of India’s high-net-worth economy is closely intertwined with broader national prosperity and entrepreneurial success.

Together, these two measures tell a compelling story: India’s wealth ecosystem is resilient and responsive. While long-term fundamentals continue to strengthen, the ecosystem also adapts quickly to challenges, underscoring the maturity and dynamism of India’s growth trajectory.

MBHX Confirms India’s Wealth Creation Is Real

The Nominal and Real MBHX move almost parallel, showing only a small gap between them. This tells us that inflation in India over this period was moderate and well-managed, averaging around 4–6% annually. Unlike high-inflation economies, where nominal measures are heavily distorted, most observed wealth creation in India came from genuine economic expansion, stock market growth, and new billionaire wealth, not simply rising prices.

In other words, the MBHX confirms that India’s wealth creation story since 2017 has been real, sustainable, and largely inflation-resilient.

prosperity and strengthening financial landscape. As of 2025, an estimated 0.31% of Indian households are classified as millionaires, up from 0.17% in 2021.

This sharp growth highlights the country’s robust wealth and asset creation, supported by resilient macroeconomic fundamentals. The expanding base of high-net-worth households signals growing financial strength and reinforces India’s position as one of the fastest-emerging global wealth hubs.

In conjunction with the new electric additional compressor, this offers an increase in boost pressure by 0.4 bar to 1.5 bar and thus a higher torque of 560 Nm in continuous operation and 600 Nm in overboost for up to 12 seconds.

However, what is more important than the absolute torque is the availability of it and the overall response of the engine. The improved electric additional compressor is responsible for this. It can now be operated almost continuously over a longer period of time. Drivers feel this especially in medium speed ranges. For this, the exhaust gas turbocharger was made larger for higher peak performance.

The new, second-generation integrated starter generator (ISG) is now integrated into the gearbox bell housing. As a central component of the 48-volt electrical system, it not only functions as an electrical generator, but also takes on hybrid functions. These include short-term boosting with 17 kW (23 hp) of power and 205 Nm of torque, recuperation, load point shifting, sailing and the almost imperceptible restart of the engine during the start-stop function.

Adapted switching times, high efficiency: AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission

The 3.0-litre in-line engine is coupled with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission, which impresses with adapted shift times, quick reactions, the double-declutching function and multiple downshifts. An upshift or downshift is implemented immediately. The transmission acts very spontaneously, especially in the "Sport+" driving programme and in manual mode. Dynamic acceleration manoeuvres and the adjusted shifting times are available, as is a fuel-saving driving style, depending on the driving programme selected.

Characteristics at your fingertips: AMG DYNAMIC SELECT

With the five AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving programmes "Slippery", "Comfort", "Sport", "Sport+" and "Individual" the characteristics of the CLE 53 can be influenced at the touch of a finger. The differentiation ranges from efficient and comfortable to very sporty. Important parameters such as the response behaviour of the engine, transmission, chassis and steering are modified. Regardless of the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving programmes, the driver can switch directly to manual mode using the "M" button, to shift gears exclusively using the steering wheel shift paddles.

Fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive as standard

The fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive combines optimal traction for dynamic driving pleasure with a high level of driving safety under all conditions: on dry roads as well as on wet or slippery surfaces. The transition from rear to all-wheel drive and vice versa occurs continuously because the intelligent control is integrated into the entire vehicle system architecture.

When driving moderately and in situations where all-wheel drive is not required, the front axle is completely decoupled. This increases efficiency. From the ESP Sport setting onwards, the driving behaviour is more rear-focused.

Independent AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension and three-stage steering

The AMG RIDE CONTROL chassis developed in Affalterbach is used for more agility, more neutral cornering behaviour and higher traction. The steel suspension with a particularly sporty spring-damper set-up and adaptive adjustable damping combines excellent driving dynamics with a high level of ride comfort. The damping on each wheel adapts to the current driving situation and road conditions quickly and precisely via separate valves for the tension and compression directions in the dampers. The damper characteristic curve can be preselected in three levels: "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport+".

The standard rear axle steering operates with a maximum steering angle of 2.5 degrees. Up to this degree, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels at speeds of up to 100 km/h, leading to a virtual shortening of the wheelbase and resulting in significantly more agile turning, less steering work, and increased maneuverability. At speeds of more than 100 km/h, the rear wheels turn parallel to the front wheels - up to a maximum of 0.7 degrees for enhanced driving stability.

Interior with independent equipment and specific displays

The interior welcomes passengers with unique equipment, exclusive materials and the latest generation MBUX infotainment system. The eye-catchers are the free-standing 12.3-inch fully digital driver display, the 11.9-inch driver-oriented central display in a user-friendly portrait format and the dynamic ambient lighting with 64 colours.

With the driver display, customers can switch between the display styles "Classic", "Sport" and AMG exclusive "Supersport". The "Supersport" mode is particularly striking with a central round tachometer, designed horizontal displays that are located to the left and right of the tachometer and create a spatial impression of depth. The driver can use the AMG menu to access various special displays such as engine data, gear indicator, warm-up, set-up, G-metre and race timer.

The integral seats in ARTICO man-made leather/MICROCUT black microfibre with AMG-specific graphics and red contrasting topstitching combine sportiness with strong lateral support. The standard, flat-bottomed AMG Performance steering wheel in double-spoke design with seamlessly integrated buttons offers a high level of everyday use with intuitive operating logic for important driving functions and all driving programmes.

Key Specifications:

Top Highlights of the All-new E-Class LWB:

Radiator grille with star pattern surface

A black panel-like surface connects the radiator grille with the headlamps. The three-dimensionally designed radiator grille has the STAR at the centre in the Avantgarde line that has been selected for the new E-Class.

MBUX Superscreen with large glass surface

The dashboard makes for the digital experience in the interior. The E-Class is equipped with a front passenger screen, and large glass surface of the MBUX Superscreen extends to the central display. Visually detached from this is the high-resolution instrument cluster display in the driver's field of vision. The main icons on the central and passenger displays are now simpler and color-coded to match smartphone tiles.

New electronic architecture

The electronic architecture is more software- and less hardware-driven. The computing functions of previously separate domains take place in a single processor. Screens and the MBUX infotainment system thus share a new, very powerful central onboard computer. This form of networking improves the performance and speed of the data streams.

New selfie and video camera

A new feature is a selfie and video camera (part of the optional MBUX Superscreen) on top of the dashboard. Using the new on-board Vivaldi browser opens new possibilities for video calls for work and pleasure by enabling you to connect from your car on the go as well.

Automated comfort functions with routines

Mercedes-Benz is pursuing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to enable the car to learn which comfort systems vehicle occupants use repeatedly. Given the same circumstances, the aim is for AI to automate such functions. Mercedes-Benz uses the term 'routine' for this innovation. At launch of the new E-Class, customers will be able to use templates for standard routines. They also have the option of creating routines themselves.

Intelligent passenger screen

The front passenger can watch dynamic content such as TV or video streaming on the display during a journey while the driver is protected from distraction.

Enhanced Suspension

The suspension is specially tuned keeping in mind the rear seat passengers and driving conditions in India. As standard, the E-Class is equipped with our AGILITY CONTROL steel spring suspension with selective damping system. This combines balanced ride comfort and high driving stability. The passive damping system ensures a superior driving experience on any road surface. It continuously adapts rolling behaviour, cushioning effect, and stabilization to the current surface. In the case of smaller bumps, the ride comfort is enhanced by reducing the damping effect, while with larger bumps the full damping ensures optimum stability.

Resource-conserving materials

Numerous components of the New E-Class are made partly from resource-saving materials (recyclable and renewable raw materials). For the first time, certified recycled raw materials are used in the foam of the seats according to the "mass balance approach". In terms of their properties, they do not differ from raw materials produced from crude oil.
