New Delhi – Mercedes-Benz hosted the first edition of its Sustainability Dialogue in India today. The 2023 edition of the dialogue focused on ‘Sustainable Mobility – Accelerating Towards a Green, Inclusive and Safe Future’ to emphasize the need for decarbonizing energy, industry, and mobility, and accelerating the transition toward a more sustainable future. The event saw key stakeholders and changemakers from the public and private sectors as well as academia, participating in a series of pertinent conversations on global trends and recent developments with Members of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, including Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, and Renata Jungo Brüngger, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG for Integrity and Legal.

• Lance Bennett will take over the responsibility from Santosh Iyer, who will take up the role of the Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India
• Lance Bennett is currently associated as the General Manager and Company Director for Mercedes-Benz New Zealand
• He played a pivotal role in implementing Retail of the Future in New Zealand and in growing Mercedes-AMG high- performance vehicle business in the market
• The appointment will be effective from 1st February, 2023
Pune: India’s largest luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz India today, announced an organizational change in its Sales & Marketing function effective from 1st February, 2023. Lance Bennett, currently associated as the General Manager and Company Director, Mercedes-Benz New Zealand, responsible for Sales, Marketing and After Sales Support for Passenger cars, will be appointed as the Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Mercedes- Benz India. Lance succeeds Santosh Iyer who is elevated as the Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, effective 1st January 2023.
Announcing the organizational change, Martin Schwenk, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented, “We are excited to welcome Lance Bennett to Mercedes- Benz India. Lance has successfully grown the Mercedes-AMG business in New Zealand and has rich experience across finance, sales, operations and product management functions. He oversaw the implementation of Retail of the Future in New Zealand. We are confident that Lance with his international market experience and proven record of driving customer excellence, will continue the growth momentum of Mercedes-Benz in India. I thank both Santosh and Lance for their invaluable contribution to the brand in respective markets and wish them the very best for their new roles.”
As General Manager of Mercedes-Benz New Zealand, Lance accomplished outstanding success in growing Mercedes-AMG high-performance vehicle range. He also launched Mercedes-EQ range of vehicles, growing the segment significantly in New Zealand over the last two years.
During 2021-22, Lance also oversaw the implementation of Mercedes-Benz’s Direct-to-Consumer business model, which focuses on providing an exceptional customer experience via transparent pricing, access to a national stock pool of vehicles, and offering the capability to purchase vehicles online. This new business model, just like in India, has redefined the way luxury vehicles are purchased in New Zealand.
Lance began his career with Mercedes-Benz New Zealand in 2005 as a management accountant. He has held several senior positions within the automotive industry, spanning Finance, Sales, Operations and Product Management, including postings in the United States, Australia and New Zealand. He re-joined Mercedes-Benz New Zealand in 2019 as its Chief Financial Officer, moving into the position of General Manager and Company Director in the same year.
Lance is an avid traveler who likes exploring the outdoors with his family. He is an automobile enthusiast with passion for both classic Mercedes-Benz cars and excited by the future and transition to e-mobility. Lance owns a CLK 55 AMG, which he enjoys driving and working on in the weekends.

Pune: India’s largest luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz India today announced a 28% rise in sales in the January-September 2022 period, delivering 11,469 new cars. With this Mercedes-Benz India sold more new cars than it did in the entire CY 2021. The sales growth, despite supply shortages is buoyed by a young product portfolio, resurgent customer sentiment scaling up businesses and the ongoing festive period. The strong sales performance breached the pre-pandemic momentum and underpins the growing customer aspiration and preference for a Mercedes-Benz car in core markets. This demand is sustained with a stable economy, strong market outlook and resilient businesses across sector.
Martin Schwenk, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented, “Our sales performance is a combination of our attractive product portfolio, bullish customer sentiments and the ongoing festive season. The ‘Made in India EQS’ is receiving an overwhelming response from customers, and we already have 300+ confirmed bookings for the luxury EV. We also have a robust order bank across all models and our focus remains to deliver these cars to our customers, on time. We are confident of maintaining the sales momentum in the coming months with newer products and service offerings in the pipeline.”
Martin Schwenk added, “Our sales are at pre-pandemic level, having crossed CY 2021 sales numbers in the first nine months this year. The current market momentum gives us the confidence for striving to achieve our highest sales ever. However, it also remains our endeavour to produce as many cars as possible to cater to the growing demand, amidst the current supply constraints.”
Mercedes-Benz rolled-out the EQS 580 4MATIC from its assembly lines last month and will be introducing the EQB luxury EV in Q4 2022.
