An electric motor each at the front axle and rear axle convert electrical into mechanical energy, and deliver impressive forward thrust. The operating strategy of the powertrain components always supplies the power wherever it is needed at any one moment – efficiently and virtually silently. This also gives a stepless 4MATIC with excellent traction in all driving and weather conditions.

Battery


Powerful and safe. A battery that meets Mercedes quality standards.

The high-voltage battery is the centre piece of the new Mercedes-Benz EQC. Thanks to its extremely high power density, it saves energy for the two electric drive units on the front and rear axle. The battery is installed in the vehicle floor in order to fulfil the high Mercedes-Benz safety requirements. This also lowers the vehicle's centre of gravity, thus ensuring a richly dynamic driving feeling.

The fully variable 4MATIC all-wheel drive applies the power delivered by the top-performing electric motors to impressive effect. The system helps to improve traction and driving stability in difficult road conditions in particular: a real safety advantage when it comes to the wet, snow and ice. At the same time, 4MATIC forms the technological basis for your sporty driving pleasure.

4MATIC distributes the power steplessly between the front and rear axle – from 0 to 100 percent. This is because both electric motors can be controlled independently of each other. When there is a loss of traction at one axle, more torque is available on the other axle in each case. This acts like in a conventional all-wheel drive vehicle with centre differential lock.
