Emotional design idiom – exterior design

Front Design

High-quality design features form the dynamic, unmistakable front end of the CLS-Class.

Key elements:
• Long bonnet that extends forward
• Pronounced V-shaped radiator grille and two heavily contoured louvres with deep air intakes

Radiator grille
The unusual depth of the radiator grille substantially extends the front end. The radiator grille constitutes a selfcontained feature which is not connected to the bonnet.
The radiator grille boasts:
• two deep louvres with matt paint fi nish and chrome highlights at the front
• large Mercedes star typical of a coupé
• large, deep air intakes
• V-shaped chrome surround

Front bumper
The following features connect the front end to the road:
• front bumper with chrome highlights that take up the V-shaped front end with a dynamic sweeping curve
• large, central air intake
• daytime running lamps with chrome surround

LED High Performance headlamps
The parking lights and locator lighting are integrated into the LED High Performance headlamps in a C-shape. The daytime driving lights also feature LED technology.

Side design

The side design features create the visual impression of dynamic forward movement.

Key side features:
• classic coupé, flat, elongated roof line with chrome trim strip
• low side windows with a virtually invisible B-pillar
• high beltline with beltline trim strip
• long, downward-sloping front end

Exterior mirrors
The exterior mirror design is reminiscent of a sports car and aff ords the CLS-Class its very dynamic looks. Mounted on the door, the exterior mirror features LED indicator repeaters which are integrated into the exterior mirror housing. The position of the exterior mirrors improves visibility when turning off .

Roof line
The high beltline leads to a fl at roof contour typical of a coupé, with low side windows. A chrome trim strip visually accentuates the extended roof line.

Rear-end design

The rearward-sloping rear end is muscular and dynamic.

Its sporty aura is a combination of the following features:
• the dominant shoulder line that develops from the heavily contoured wheel arches
• the wide LED tail lights drawn well into the sides

Rear bumper
The following features add a dynamic finishing touch to the rear-end design:
• wide rear bumper with chrome highlights
• centrally positioned LED fog lamp

Exhaust system
Three different exhaust systems are available depending on engine and equipment choice:
• twin-pipe, not visible, integrated into the bumper for the V6 engines

Tail lights
The LED tail lights sweep around the rear end. The visible LEDs and the clear-glass lenses bring the innovative design to life both by day and by night.
Tail light structure running from the outside inwards:
• Exterior contour with refl ecting elements
• The contour-hugging tail light and brake light, the brake light is implemented by increasing the brightness of the LEDs
• Central clear-lens section with indicator lamp drawn well into the sides and central reversing light
