Country mode:
Here the low beam is distributed to illuminate the offside road edges better. The significantly increased range of vision on both sides of the road enables  you to orientate yourself more easily and react more rapidly.

Motorway mode:
This light mode is activated automatically in two stages: from 90 km/h, the system increases the output of the bi-xenon bulbs from 35 to 38 watts, thereby increasing the light intensity. From 110 km/h, the setting of the offside  headlamp is also changed in order to illuminate the carriageway’s entire width evenly to a range of around 120 metres.

Enhanced fog lamps:
The main task of the front fog lamps is to provide a broader light beam for more effective illumination of the road verges. In this mode, the offside bi-xenon headlamp pivots outwards by eight degrees while lowering its beam. The enhanced fog lamp function is activated automatically if the rear fog lamp is switched on and the vehicle speed is no more than 70 km/h, and automatically switches off at speeds above 100 km/h.

Active light function:
The active light function works on both low and main beam. Its electronic control unit uses updated information relating to the steering angle, yaw rate and vehicle speed. The bi-xenon modules follow the driver's steering wheel movements and are able to pivot sideways in an instant while cornering, thus illuminating even tight bends effectively.

Cornering light function:
When the main headlamps are switched on, the cornering lights integrated into the fog lamps are automatically activated if the driver operates the indicators or turns the steering wheel. The maximum speed for activation is 40 km/h.

Adaptive Highbeam Assist:
This feature provides the best possible headlamp range in a responsible manner. As part of the Intelligent Light System, whenever the system detects the headlamps or taillights of a car ahead, it automatically dims your high beam then reactivates it when the road is clear. The system also continuously adjusts the range of your low-beam headlamps to suit the driving situation.

In addition to these varied functions of the Intelligent Light System, the LED daytime driving lights enhance perceptual safety during the daytime.

ATTENTION ASSIST is a first-in-its-class innovation that comes as standard in the new-generation C-Class. This revolutionary feature can detect signs of drowsiness or inattentiveness, and alert the driver in time to prevent an accident. This is done through a number of sensors that detect and analyse the vehicle behaviour and steering movements. If the system detects certain steering patterns that frequently accompany drowsiness, it warns the driver visually, via the instrument cluster, as well as acoustically. ATTENTION ASSIST can be activated and deactivated in the main menu of the instrument cluster under “Assistance systems”. When switched on, it is  active at speeds between 80 and 180 km/h.

ATTENTION ASSIST has the following functions:
• A sensor measures the steering wheel position with an accuracy of 0.1°
• The steering behaviour of the driver is analysed for characteristic steering movements
• In interaction with additional sensors, signs of driver drowsiness and lapses of concentration are detected and an alert is sounded
